Building Peace

I think educating women is just as important as educating men. I believe if we had more people like Greg Mortinson, many of our underdeveloped countries would be on the right road to educating their women and kids. These kids aren’t getting the chance to reach their full potential as individuals. It’s sort of unfair to the kids because they don’t have the resources to be all they can be.  If we pushed them in the right direction, I’m sure their living environment as a whole would be different.  I don’t think being girl or boy matters.  Honestly girls have the same potential as men, so putting men first in education is unfair. I believe they do this just because its sort of become tradition in these countries to put men before women.  This is something I just don’t agree with and definitely would be a reason why I, personally, would choose to help these underdeveloped countries.
Another issue I have besides education is the health issue.  I think its so sad that kids under the age of five are actually dying because they don’t have clean water to drink.  Living in such a powerful country, you really take just having clean water for granted. Personally, I don’t really take having clean water as something big or something to be thankful for. After watching this film segment, you really start to think about your life and how you are living it compared to the less fortunate.  For example, going to school could be the hardest thing we have to do.  We complain so much about getting up early and going to our big nice schools. However, in the other countries people look forward to education and really want it to do good in life.

  1. I think sarah makes a great point in talking about how everyone takes the simple benefits of life for granted. It is true so many of us complain of waking up early, or not having the best wardrobe or style. In the video it showed children who were thankful to even have dirt to draw and learn on. I also agree that girls and boys should be equal but because of the belifes over generations you sometimes have to focus more on girls. As it said in the video, boys were always the one to receive the education and never the girls. So in helping a poverty country girls sometimes need to come first and not always stay equal to the boys in order to provide advancement.

  2. I think that we like to see this things in the eyes of other countries, in away feeling like we are above it, but the truth is that we as Americans were as narrow minded as some of these developing countries today. Our history reveals how narrow minded we once were, by not allowing women to vote and looking down on those women who chose a career over fulfilling the roll of a typical house wife. By keeping women uneducated you cripple them. Educating women is important because through education they gain a sense of self-worth and a sense that society acknowledges there existence.

  3. I agree with Sarah because we take forgranted the clean water we have and the free education the govenrment offers. We are lucky because we have the right to receive an education that most countries do not have the resources to make schools or to pay teachers to educate kids.
I also agree that the treatment for boys and girls should be equal because we have the same potential no matter of our sex. In our world we have many influential women such as Michelle Obama, Oprah, Madonna etc.

  4. I agree with what you said because I feel women and men are have equal opportunities. Education is a big factor to develop peace around the world. Not only in this country clean water is taken for granted but also the opportunities and how lucky we are to have more resources than people in undeveloped countries. we have the opportunity to have clean water, airconditioning in schools, and a roof over our heads. We should be thankful for the opportunities we have and try to help those who are less lucky than we are.

  5. I agree with you on educating more women. Many people say men will be leaders of the future but women play just as an important role. Health care is just as important. If so called poor people of America can have clean water, why cant underdeveloped countries have any?

  6. 2/25/11 After reading Sarahs blog post about "Building Peace" I totally agree on what she thinks and about girls not having as much rights as men should be over with already. That was only back in the day. Nowadays everyone should have the same rights in every country not different just because of your gender or ace. Also, children under the age of 5 not being able to survive in other countries because the water they drink isn't clean is truely unfair. Hopefully soon all this will change in other countries and everyone will have equal rights

  9. Sarah all of these blogs are good, i enjoy this one because it is so true how women are giving the same opportunities as men which is truly unfair. In the end all rights should be equal and everybody should be given the same tools to make their even better. good job

  10. I agree that its unfair for men and women to not have the opportunity of education because of the country they live in. It is easy to forget how lucky we are and how sometimes we take education for granted. I do agree that we need more people like Greg.
